Fathom alternative

No bot in your call, no upsell to “Premium”.

Fathom Free is generous — but the bot still joins, recordings live in Fathom's cloud, and the AI you actually want is behind Premium ($24/seat/mo). Quietly captures on your Mac with no third party in the call, writes plain Markdown to your folder, and is $49 once.

Why people move from Fathom

A bot in every call. Cloud-only recordings. Premium gating.

“Fathom has joined the meeting.” Every customer call, every candidate, every legal sync — Fathom's bot is in the room.

Recordings live in Fathom's cloud. One TOS change, one breach, one acquisition away from being a problem you have to explain.

Free tier is a funnel. AI summaries, CRM push, ask-AI — all behind Premium ($24/seat) and Team Edition.

Closed exports. Notes open in Fathom and Fathom-integrated tools. Cursor, Codex, Claude — all need workarounds.

Honest take

Where Fathom is better.

Honest tradeoffs. If these matter more, stick with Fathom.

CRM

Salesforce / HubSpot push.

Fathom Team Edition writes call notes directly into CRM records. Quietly's path is Markdown → your scripts → wherever.

Free

Free unlimited recordings.

Fathom's free tier is unusually generous. If you can live with the bot, the cloud, and the upsell — it costs nothing.

Cross-platform

Mac, Windows, mobile.

Fathom runs everywhere. Quietly is macOS-only today.

Why people switch

Where Quietly wins.

No bot

The bot is gone.

No “Fathom has joined the meeting.” Quietly captures system audio + mic locally — the other side of the call has no idea anything is being recorded by anyone but the platform itself.

Local

Nothing leaves your Mac.

Audio, transcript, summary — all on disk. Fathom uploads every recording to its cloud and runs AI server-side.

$49 once

No Premium gate.

Fathom Premium = $24/seat/mo to unlock summaries, ask-AI, CRM. Quietly = $49 once, every feature included, no per-seat math.

MCP next

Your AI, not theirs.

Fathom's “ask AI” runs on Fathom's servers with Fathom's prompts. Quietly's built-in Chat answers with your own key — Anthropic or OpenAI — cited to the transcript; or point Claude / GPT / Cursor / Codex at the Markdown yourself.

In-person

Anywhere, not just Zoom, Meet, or Teams.

Hallway chat, customer dinner, conference panel, voice memo. Open Quietly and hit ⌘R for the mic; pick Transcribe a file… for any audio file. Fathom needs a meeting link.

Plain Markdown

Open in anything that reads files.

Plain .md in your repo, your iCloud folder, any folder you pick. Fathom exports as a courtesy; Quietly was never closed.

Migration

Moving from Fathom takes about 5 minutes.

01

Export from Fathom. Account → Export. You get a folder of summaries, transcripts, action items.

02

Drop into your Quietly folder. iCloud, your repo, any folder — whichever folder you point Quietly at.

03

Done. Cursor, Codex CLI, and Claude Desktop see your back catalogue immediately. New recordings save next to old ones.

FAQ

Things people ask before switching.

Fathom is free. Why pay $49?
Fathom's free tier is generous on minutes, but: (1) the bot still joins the call, (2) recordings live in Fathom's cloud, (3) the AI summary, ask-AI, and CRM features that make a meeting tool useful are behind Premium ($24/seat/mo) and Team Edition ($32). Quietly is $49 once with everything included, runs locally, and never puts a bot in your call.
What about Fathom's "ask AI" feature?
An MCP server for Claude Desktop, Cursor, and Codex CLI is shipping next — until then, your AI tools read the plain Markdown via filesystem MCP or file readers. Either way the difference holds: Fathom's AI runs on Fathom's servers using Fathom's prompts; Quietly's AI is whatever you bring (Anthropic, OpenAI, Ollama) running with prompts you control.
Can I import my Fathom recordings?
Fathom supports a full account export — transcripts, summaries, action items. Drop the resulting files into your Quietly folder and they're indexed by everything you point at it. We're working on a one-click importer.
Does Quietly do CRM sync like Fathom Team Edition?
Not natively. Quietly writes plain Markdown — most teams pipe it into Salesforce / HubSpot via a small script or n8n. If CRM sync is the only reason you're on Fathom Team, stay there. If you want notes that AREN'T owned by a vendor, switch.
Is Quietly really $49 once with no monthly fee?
Yes. One purchase, two Macs, all updates within the major version, no subscription. Buying for a team? Email support@meetquietly.com about multi-seat licensing.
